From Celtic village to world capital: how Paris became Paris
This compact animated visualisation traces the transformation of Paris across more than two millennia, from a small fishing settlement founded by the Celtic Parisii on an island in the Seine to the global metropolis of 2025. Created in 3D animation without the use of AI, the video follows the city through successive waves of conquest, growth and reinvention, including Roman rule, medieval expansion, modern urbanisation and the pressures of globalisation.
In just three minutes, the animation turns urban history into a sweeping visual journey. Streets, walls, bridges and neighbourhoods emerge and expand as Paris becomes not only the capital of France, but one of the world’s great centres of culture, politics and imagination. Fast, precise and absorbing, the film captures how a local settlement became a city shaped by empire, revolution, modernity and global memory.
